Implications for vibroacoustic music theory and practice are discussed.This Eidetic Imagery Program gives participants a foundation in the field of Imagery Psychology. In addition, the results indicated that the effect of vibroacoustic music was to some extent dependent on the participants’ diagnosis. The results revealed that vibroacoustic music reduced self-injurious, stereotypic, and aggressive destructive behaviors in the participants. In addition, the sessions were videotaped and analyzed minute by minute for challenging behaviors. In order to evaluate each session, the accompanying assistants assessed behavior on different scales after each session. Behavior was assessed using the Behavior Problems Inventory in all participants before the treatment, after the first group had completed their treatment, and again after the second group had completed their treatment. Then the second group received the same treatment during the next 5weeks. ![]() The first group received 10–20 min sessions with vibroacoustic music treatment for 5 weeks. The participants were randomized into two groups in a randomized controlled trial evaluation. The present study experimentally tested the effects of vibroacoustic music on self-injurious, stereotypical, and aggressive destructive behaviors in 20 individuals with autism spectrum disorders and developmental disabilities. ![]() Vibroacousticmusic has been proposed to be an effective treatment for individuals with developmental disorders and challenging behaviors. The outcome also hinted at the ability of people with ID to experience eidetic imagery. This study confirmed similar potential of such a model of psychotherapy in addressing these problems in people with ID in a less number of sessions. Eidetic imagery based psychotherapy has shown promising outcome to address experi-ential, emotional, psychiatric and behavioural problems in typically developing individuals. What this paper adds This is the first empirical study conducted to investigate the clinical potential of eidetic imagery based therapeutic techniques for people with intellectual disability (ID). The result indicates existence of eidetic imagery in people with ID and its promising therapeutic utility. Paired-sample t-test revealed a significant difference between the pre-therapy and post-therapy scores of participants on ADAMS, with a large effect size (d ¼ 1.54). The statistical analysis of the pre-therapy and post-therapy scores of participants on the ADAMS was carried out to measure the therapeutic outcome. The Anxiety Depression and Mood Scale (ADAMS) was administered to the participants before the therapy started, after every 5 th session and once the therapy was terminated. These services were contacted to recruit participants who had experiential (i.e., abuse, trauma etc.), emotional (i.e., bereavement, attachment problems), psychiatric (i.e., anxiety, depression) and behavioural (i.e., anger, aggression) problems and to seek consent from the potential participants. Participants were recruited from the services for people with ID. In this study thirty participants with mild and moderate ID were recruited. This study investigates the clinical utility of therapeutic techniques based on eidetic imagery as developed by Ahsen and Syed. The literature review did not find any empirical study on eidetic imagery-based psychotherapy for people with ID except reviews and case histories. EMG is based on the theoretical tenets of eidetic psychotherapy of Akhter Ahsen, which uses eidetic imagery as its major therapeutic tool. Eidetic model of growth (EMG) is a form of psychotherapy developed for people with intellectual disabilities (ID).
